How It Works
How This Equipment Works
Clarity II combines a 755nm alexandrite wavelength with a 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength, both of which take advantage of the property of being selectively absorbed by the melanin pigment within hair follicles. The 755nm wavelength has a high melanin absorption rate, making it suitable for finer hairs in relatively shallow layers or for lighter skin, while the 1064nm wavelength is absorbed less by the epidermis and penetrates more deeply, so it is reported to be applicable relatively safely even to darker skin types or thicker hair.
When the laser energy is absorbed by the melanin within the hair follicle, heat is generated, producing a selective photothermolysis effect on the follicular tissue, which can help slow the hair's growth cycle. Because hairs follow different growth cycles such as the anagen (growth) and telogen (resting) phases, it is difficult to affect every follicle in a single treatment, and repeated sessions matched to the proportion of follicles in the growth phase are known to be necessary.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is hair removal painful?
A. You may feel a brief stinging sensation at the follicle area, and how much you feel it can vary depending on the wavelength and cooling method.
Q. Is there any downtime after the treatment?
A. The area around the follicles may temporarily become red or slightly swollen, but this usually subsides within a short time.
Q. Why do I need multiple sessions to expect results?
A. Because hairs follow different growth cycles such as the anagen (growth) and telogen (resting) phases, it is difficult to affect every follicle in a single treatment, so repeated sessions at regular intervals matched to the proportion of follicles in the growth phase are needed.
Q. Is there anything to be careful about after the treatment?
A. The treated area can become sensitive to irritation, so it is recommended to avoid hot compresses and friction and to use adequate sun protection.
