Jessner solution consists of a blended formulation of 14% salicylic acid, 14% lactic acid, and 14% resorcinol dissolved in ethanol. Each ingredient works in a different way.
- Salicylic acid (BHA) is oil-soluble and penetrates into the pores to clear away sebum and dead skin cells.
- Lactic acid (AHA) weakens the bonds between corneocytes, aiding exfoliation and moisturization.
- Resorcinol is known to assist in dissolving dead skin cells and to exert an antibacterial action.
The three ingredients act together on part or all of the epidermis to induce the peeling of dead skin cells, and through the subsequent regeneration into new epidermal cells, an effect of refined skin texture and tone can be expected. The intensity of the peel is adjusted according to the number of applied layers and the time.
